Although no one can know all the risks when it comes to a procedure, these are some of the known risks associated with tattoos.
Understand Risks and Precautions
A tattoo is a permanent mark or design made on your skin with pigments inserted through pricks into the skin's top layer. A hand-held machine that acts much like a sewing machine, with one or more needles piercing the skin repeatedly. With every puncture, the needles insert tiny ink droplets. The process, which is done without anesthetics, causes a small amount of bleeding and slight to potentially significant pain.
Infections and Other Possible Granuloma Complications
Allergic Reactions
Tattoo dyes especially red, green, yellow, and blue dyes, can cause allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This can occur even years after you get the tattoo. Medication or other treatment might be needed if you experience an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink or develop an infection or other skin problem near a tattoo.
Skin Infections
A skin infection is possible after tattooing. Other skin problems. Sometimes an area of inflammation called a granuloma can form around tattoo ink. Tattooing can also lead to keloids (raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue).
Bloodborne Diseases
Including but not limited to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
MRI Complications
Rarely, tattoos might cause swelling or burning in the affected areas during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. In some cases, tattoo pigments can interfere with the quality of the image.
Safety Precautions
To make sure your tattoo will be applied safely, INK Tattoos & Permanent Makeup Studio has ensured the following:
All tattoo artists are properly licensed in the state of Iowa.
All tattoo artists wash their hands and wear a fresh pair of protective gloves for each procedure.
All tattoo artists use proper equipment that has been sterilized and is in single-use packaging whenever possible. Tubes and needles are used only once and discarded after each tattoo. Therefore, it is not essential to use an autoclave. This ensures that the highest quality tattooing session will take place in a sanitary and safe setting.

Allergic Reactions
Allergic reaction responses may include, but are not limited to, pimples appearing in the treated area, redness, itchiness, pain, raised pigmented areas, rashes, swelling, a rash, blistering, dryness, or any other symptoms associated with allergy.
Skin
Scarring to pigmented areas; Infection; granulomas (small knots or bumps that can form around material the body perceives as foreign, such as tattoo pigment). Tattooing can also lead to keloids (raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue).
Possibility of bleeding, swelling, and redness;
Potential for discomfort during the procedure(s) and healing process;
On rare occasions, the pigment may migrate under the skin.
Misplacement or migration of the pigment can occur, under rare circumstances, requiring excision and/or correction.
Swelling and redness of the skin will subside in 1-4 (one to four) days, and in some cases, bruising can occur.
Bloodborne Diseases
Including but not limited to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
MRI Complications
MRI complications include but are not limited to, interfering with the quality of the image, and potential swelling or burning to the area as a result of interactions between the magnetic fields and the pigment. Rarely, permanent makeup might cause swelling or burning in the affected areas during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. In some cases, tattoo pigments can interfere with the quality of the image.
Other
Permanent makeup near or around the eyes may stimulate dormant eye disorders or eye infections, and some medications can prevent the absorption of the pigment.
There is a possibility of the treatment area not becoming numb. Each individual is different according to their skin type; therefore, some clients will report that the area is numb while others say they experience some discomfort. INK Tattoos & Permanent Makeup Studio does not have a way of identifying if the numbing cream and gel that will be used during the cosmetic tattoo session will numb the treatment area.
