Pre-Session Care

Tattoos

permanent makeup is down below

  • Tanning, waxing, and tinting should be stopped 14 days prior, and any sunburns must be healed.

  • Blood thinners such as alcohol, Ibuprofen, aspirin, Aleve, NSAIDS, vitamin E, fish oil, or vitamins, unless medically necessary, should be stopped 3 days (72 hours) prior.

  • Working out and caffeine should be stopped 2 days (48 hours) prior.

  • On the day of your session, avoid caffeine, hydrate, and eat a light meal.

Additionally, remember to…

Hydrate

You should drink a lot of water in advance of the procedure to ensure that you remain hydrated. While being hydrated is generally a good idea, in this specific situation, it makes you more resilient and speeds up your recovery.

Moisturize

It is sensible to moisturize your skin the day before your tattoo, even though you shouldn't apply moisturizer immediately before getting one. Moreover, it facilitates slightly better ink take. On the day of your tattoo session, avoid using any moisturizers, lotions, etc.

Shower

You're going to spend a lot of time near your artist. Kindly make sure you smell good and do them a favor!

Shave

If you are comfortable and confident in your shaving skills, please shave the area the day before you arrive at your session. If you are not comfortable or feel like you will end up leaving your skin with razor burn, bumps, a rash, etc, let your artist know, and you will be shaved before your session. Your artist will reschedule your session if you arrive with skin that is not able to be inked!

Sleep

The night before, avoid staying up late! You'll be less twitchy and contribute to cleaner, straighter lines if you get enough sleep.

Eat Well

Before your appointment, make sure you have a nourishing meal. Particularly when your natural reaction is to tense up throughout the uncomfortable portions of the tattoo, your body will require energy.

Wear the Right Clothing

Try to come in clothes that don't cover the area you are getting work done on. For example, if you are getting an arm tattoo, wear a tank top. Even though it might not happen, the stencil's ink can get on your clothing. If you have to roll it up so the artist can access the area, you'll have to stretch it out and secure it to keep it out of the way while the artist works.

Entertainment

Bring along something to pass the time. Most of us are blessed with smartphones these days, so bring your phone and a charger with Netflix or other entertainment to pass the time during the session.

Permanent Makeup

  • Accutane should be stopped one year prior.

  • Facials; chemical peels; laser treatments; microdermabrasion; Botox injections; fillers; anti-aging products; anti-acne products; Retin A; surgeries; and antibiotics should be stopped 30 days prior.

Additional Lip Blushing Instructions

An injury to the lips may cause a flare-up of cold sores/fever blisters, even if you have not previously had an outbreak. Since lip blushing produces tiny microscopic injuries to the lips, it is strongly recommended that you consult your healthcare provider and begin taking a prescription antiviral such as Valtrex two days before your session, and continue taking it until about 7 days after your 6-week touch-up appointment. If you have any issues, contact your health provider for treatment.
